The bridge...

With great sadness I write that Molly went to the Rainbow Bridge today. She had a rough night, and this morning she wouldn't eat; at that point I knew something was REALLY wrong, because Molly loved to eat. I took her to VHUP, where her labs revealed she had developed diabetes as a result of the Cushings and that she was in Diabetic Ketoacidosis and also had pancreatitis. She was in pain and I did what I needed to do to keep her comfortable. She died in my arms. Maggie and Gus are doing fine; the are certainly looking for Molly and spending lots of time licking my tears.

Today, I learned AGAIN that I have the most wonderful, caring, loving group of friends in the world. Thanks to Elizabeth for being with me. Thanks to Trish, for taking Molly to VHUP with me this morning. Thanks to Heather and Meg for the long walk with Gus and Mags tonight. Thanks to Ellen for sitting in the ED waiting room with me. Thanks to Lori, Robin and Wendy for the phone calls and the offers to come hang out with me. Thanks to Jane for calling our vet, Justin, at home. Thanks to Justin, for calling me when you were at home sick.

Special thanks to Dr Daly at VHUP who took wonderful care of Molly and me.
I know Molly is with Maxie, eating all the greenies she wants, patiently waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I will love you always Molly.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I've been there and know you did the right thing for Molly even tho it's the hardest thing for us. Hugs and support to you, Maggie and Gus.

Also - knowing that your beagles are rescued, I can't help but think how many more years you gave Molly. You are a very special person.

Dear Christina-

You are the best. You are funny and kind and generous and I know that Molly had a great life because she shared part of it with you. My condolences and good thoughts go out to you.

People here at work can't understand why I am crying over someone else's dog, whose belly I never even got to rub, but I guess you just have to be a Dog Mommy to get it. Hugs sweetie.

I'm so sorry about Molly. It hurts so much, but think of all the fun you had with her and be glad you have the other pups to keep you company. I'm sure the pain will lessen, but you will never forget her. Just reading you note reminded me of my beloved Ziggy. He was my love but I never, ever wanted him to suffer. I always tell my Ozzy, as much as I love him, that Ziggy still has a special place in my heart. Be strong and remember the fun.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I know you will miss Molly terribly. I lost my three year old cocker in January to autoimmune disease. She will forever be in your heart and will be waiting for you.

ohhhhhh....i'm so sad for you. I have been thru the same and it's the most heartbreaking of experiences. I just had to keep in mind that it is up to the human to make the right decision for the canine....they could be in lots of pain and our selfishness keeps them in that pain until we make the ultimate, painful decision...with time, you will feel better...but you will always miss her! take good care...carolyn in CT
